Deputy Endorsement
Being that Knox County will always be my home and having ties with family and friends spread throughout, I am often asked which candidate I support for the elected position of Sheriff of Knox County. As a former Knox County Deputy, I respect all the candidates and have briefly worked with two of them. However, I endorse the one candidate that stands outside of the Sheriff’s Office. That candidate is Daniel Weckesser. I will try and give you a few reasons why and not just give a blind endorsement.
I’ve known Dan only for a short time, but after speaking with him one-on-one on several occasions I’ve always retained the impression Dan is 100% genuine and does truly care about the citizens of Knox County. Dan is not a politician and does not make apologies for not being one. Dan has run his campaign honestly and doesn’t give politically correct answers to the hard questions just to gain favor in the public’s eye.
I have the utmost respect for Dan as a friend and as a brother-in-law enforcement. At a hard time in my career in Knox County and in a situation, no one wants to be in, Dan stood beside me and checked on me consistently. While many other deputies did too, it was my administration that failed me and ultimately was my decision to leave the office. Even after I left Dan continued to check on me and assured me I always had someone I could talk to. The amazing part of this is that I only knew Dan for a very short time at that point and was willing to give his support to someone he barely knew. For this, I will always consider him a friend.
Since then I’ve heard Dan speak on issues concerning Knox County like growth, drug abuse, and retainment. His answers are truthful and doable. His answers are not wrapped in political slop and frankly, the status quo that’s been promised for years during election time and never carried out. I think Dan will be a forward-thinking Sheriff ready to vastly modernize and improve the office. A sheriff who will inspire the men he is in charge of and will lead from the front. A Sheriff that will not preach from his office but lead from the front line as he has done at his current Department. A Sheriff that will have every citizen’s back as well as his deputies.
I can go on and on but if you need more please feel free to message me and I can go over it in detail. In conclusion, I extend my endorsement to Daniel Weckesser for Sheriff of Knox County.
Sincerely,
Deputy Michael W. Collins

Captain Rich Miller - SRO Officer
I wanted to reach out to my friends and colleagues to answer the question about whom I support for the upcoming Knox County Sheriff election. Without reservation, I support Chief Daniel J. Weckesser. Chief Weckesser has built his passionate law enforcement career with one goal “to serve the people”. Dan serves his community day and night, seldom thinking of himself, but always thinking of others and their needs. Dan is straightforward, fair, relentless in his pursuit, and often faced with stretching a few resources to protect the many of whom he serves. Dan is foundationally and constitutionally grounded and always seeks to expand upon that foundation to make everyone successful. In Dan’s endeavor for Knox County Sheriff, he and I have talked about many ideas to benefit Knox County, the citizens, and the entire law enforcement team. I‘m honored Dan has asked me to join his team once elected. With over 30 years of experience spanning jail operations, accreditation, patrol, training, special operations, investigations, personnel, administration, and leadership, I believe we will bring a new forward-thinking, dynamic, and energetic atmosphere to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.

Danville Resident
I've lived in Danville for many years now. I have personally noticed Officer Dan's service to our community. I've seen him help people with their cars when they're not working. I've seen him help neighbors in the Apartment complex where I live with arguments ect. even when he is not actually on duty. He is always courteous and approachable. Anytime I've interacted with Dan with concerns he always listens and checks out the problem. We are blessed to have Dan as Chief of Police in Danville as he cares about our community and keeps us safe. Dan would be a great Sheriff and do the same for Knox County.
